Who is a Surrogate Mother?

Surrogate Mothers or Gestational Carriers/Gestational Surrogates are selfless, compassionate women that carry a pregnancy for Intended Parents who cannot carry a pregnancy by themselves.

In a gestational surrogacy process, the Surrogate Mother does not have any genetic relation to the baby she is carrying. The sperm of the intended father or a sperm donor and the eggs of the intended mother or an Egg Donor are used to create embryos in the laboratory. This is called the In-vitro Fertilization or IVF process. This way the baby retains genetic relation with the Intended Parents.

The embryo is then implanted into the Surrogate Mother’s womb to achieve pregnancy. The Surrogate carries the pregnancy to term and once the baby is delivered, the Intended Parents take over the parental responsibilities of the baby.
